"The Renzo Dazzle" vs "The Bandit Hustle"
Living Lore choice panels from p62 of The Dawngate Chronicles. I got to bring some of my special goofball sauce to Kahgen and Renzo represented in graffiti.
I am planning some Chronicles process posts soon, as soon I finish painting all these pages!

nicholaskole:

It is agreed, between John Loren and I: Today’s Dawngate Chronicles page may be our greatest achievement so far :D

RENZO HAS ARRIVED!

Which means it is time to announce the SECOND EVER DAWNGATE FANART CONTEST! The Reddit is here, and I have pasted it’s text thusly:

Ladies and gentlemen! As you may have noticed, today’s Dawngate Chronicles page is one of uncommon magnificence. This is no doubt due to the gracious presence of Nishi’An’s greatest Virtuoso: RENZO. It is only improved by the revelation of his Incredible Chest.

I, Nicholas Kole, have been granted the gargantuan and humbling privilege of drawing RENZO HIMSELF for this page and pages to come. But it is a task too big for one artist alone: IT MUST BE SHARED. RENZOS BODY IS A WONDERLAND TOO GREAT AND TERRIBLE IN IT’S PERFECTION FOR ONE ARTIST ALONE. SO it is with great pomp and circumstance that I announce today the beginning of the SECOND DAWNGATE FANART CONTEST!

Here are the rules, as handed down from the Great Sculptor himself:

1) The theme is: RENZO AND HIS MASTERPIECE. Interpret as you see fit. No limit on style, format or anything. But it must contain Maximum Renzoness. Renzo-osity. Renzarity. Bonus points awarded for hilarity.

2) Submissions should be posted and collected on this Reddit thread or tweeted to me @FromHappyRock

3) The contest will close in 2 WEEKS on Friday, August 29th at Midnight EST. At which point entries will be collated, a winner will be chosen, and non-winners will be hugged ever-so-gently and told it’s alright. I’ll post all the entries together in a glorious collage here and on tumblr!

4) The Dawngate Chronicles art team loves Renzo, and we love you (our hearts somehow have room for BOTH, though they strain to the point of bursting). John Loren and I have decided we will draw a Shaper of the winner’s choosing. For this task we will switch roles: John will draw, I will color, and we will make it AS SILLY AS POSSIBLE. Brace yourselves.

Have fun! Make Art! Wooooooo! COME RENZO WITH US. YOU’LL BE GLAD YOU DID.

Nick Kole and I are holding a RENZO fan-art contest for Dawngate Chronicles. Virtuoso Renzo is currently being featured on the Chronicles, and if you have the artistic fortitude to capture the mighty sculptor, we implore you to join the fun.

Why have you been posting no art, John?
Because The Dawngate Chronicles!
My friend Nick Kole and I have been working with the team from Waystone Games on a webcomic that tells the story of Dawngate, their new MOBA game now in open Beta. Nick is doing the layout and line-art and I am handling color and backgrounds. It’s been busy and awesome so far, definitely a style push that I needed.
These are just a few pages from the first week, I’ll put up some more as we go, but the whole story will unfold here:

I was honored with the opportunity to do a Steam trading card for the upcoming smash hit game ‘Escape Goat 2.’ I was given carte blanche for the style, so naturally it got pretty kooky. This one was a blast.

It’s coming out soon, go Steam it!

Screens! More of my background paints with CloudKid, they are even more exciting when things are animated on them. The many-screened shot was painted over a sketch by Isaac Orloff. Color keys for all this stuff by Louie Zong. Check out their work, if you haven’t already.
